The overwhelming victory of Luis Fortuño as Governor of Puerto Rico, on November 4th 2008 is a prime example that proves the broad appeal of Republican value. The difference between Fortuño and his rival, Popular Democratic Party was over 220,000 votes.  Fortuño gathered 1,025,945 votes, breaking the 1996 record for the largest electoral victory, previously held by fellow statehooder and Democratic party candidate Pedro Roselló.

Fortuño's win offers compelling proof that Republican values resonated broadly among voters on the Island's predominant Hispanic population.
